As First Weekly Magazine Predicted, Governor Adeleke Dumps PDP, Joins Accord Party

As earlier projected last week by First Weekly Magazine, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the Accord Party, marking a major shift in the state’s political landscape.

Adeleke’s defection comes amid deepening crises within the PDP, culminating in Tuesday’s governorship primary where Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola emerged as the party’s flag-bearer for the 2026 Osun gubernatorial election.

The PDP primary, held at Adolak Event Centre in Osogbo under heavy security, witnessed the accreditation of 957 out of 990 expected delegates. The Chairman of the PDP Primary Committee, Humphery Abba, had earlier revealed that the party received two nominations from Governor Ademola Adeleke and Adebayo Adedamola before Adeleke abruptly withdrew from the race.

Hours before voting commenced, Adeleke formally notified party officials of his exit from the PDP, paving the way for Adedamola to secure 919 votes out of the valid ballots cast, with 20 voided.

The exercise was closely monitored by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who observed the process until Adedamola was declared the duly elected candidate.

Adeleke’s move to the Accord Party is expected to reshape political alignments in Osun State ahead of next year’s election, setting the stage for a fierce multi-party contest.
