APC Think-Tank To Review Tinubu’s Three-Year Performance

The policy think-tank of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), The Progressives Institute (TPI), has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive three-year performance review of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that it is time to critically assess the gains of the administration’s multi-sectoral reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The announcement was made on Thursday during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between TPI and Jade & Jaydens Services Limited. The partnership will support a three-day Midterm Sectoral Review aimed at evaluating the impact of President Tinubu’s policies across key sectors of the economy.

Speaking at the event, TPI Director-General Dr. Lanre Adebayo praised the administration’s bold economic measures, particularly the removal of the petrol subsidy and the floating of the naira. According to him, these reforms have significantly improved the fiscal standing of subnational governments.

“Before 2023, most state governors were borrowing money to pay salaries. Today, no state government is borrowing for that purpose. Instead, governors are embarking on massive infrastructure projects because they have significantly more resources at their disposal,” Adebayo said.

He described President Tinubu as a “statesman” rather than a “politician,” arguing that previous administrations avoided implementing similar reforms due to political risks. Adebayo referenced former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari, noting that while each faced economic challenges, none undertook the kind of sweeping structural changes introduced by the current administration.

He further stated that redirecting funds from fuel subsidy payments into productive investments has created a more sustainable fiscal environment for federal, state, and local governments.

Also speaking, Dr. Mustapha Jibril, leader of the Progressive Local Government Chairmen Forum and Chairman of Chanchaga Local Government Area in Niger State, said local administrators are already witnessing the effects of the reforms. While acknowledging ongoing challenges such as insecurity, he expressed optimism about the federal government’s response and its commitment to strengthening grassroots governance.
James Williams, representing Jade & Jaydens Services Limited, said the collaboration with TPI is designed to enhance institutional credibility by documenting measurable outcomes of the administration’s policies. He noted that such documentation would deepen democratic accountability and promote sustainable growth.

The three-year review is expected to provide a sector-by-sector assessment of economic, infrastructural, and social policies, while identifying areas that require further reform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
