APC Takes Major Decisions: Enugu Exco Dissolved, Two Ekiti Governorship Aspirants Disqualified

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a series of decisive actions aimed at restoring internal cohesion and strengthening the party’s structures ahead of upcoming elections.
At its 179th meeting held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the NWC announced the dissolution of the Enugu State Executive Committee over what it described as “prolonged internal rivalry and factional disputes” that have hampered the party’s growth in the state.
Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Duro Meseko, who briefed journalists after the meeting, said the decision was part of broader efforts to reposition the party in the South-East region.
“The National Working Committee, after exhaustive deliberations, resolved to dissolve the Enugu State Executive Committee with immediate effect due to unresolved leadership crises that have continued to impede party activities. A caretaker committee will soon be constituted to steer the affairs of the party in the interim,” Meseko stated.
He further disclosed that the APC is “putting finishing touches” to arrangements ahead of the expected defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, into the ruling party. Meseko described the development as “a major breakthrough” for the APC in the South-East, noting that Governor Mbah’s entry would further consolidate the party’s base in the region.
In another major decision, the NWC disqualified two governorship aspirants in Ekiti State — Kayode Ojo and Olajumoke Abimbola — from participating in the forthcoming governorship primary election. The disqualification, according to party sources, followed the report of the APC Screening Committee, which cited “non-compliance with party guidelines and discrepancies in documentation.”
The decisions come amid intensified political activities within the party ahead of off-cycle governorship elections in several states, with the leadership pledging to uphold transparency, discipline, and unity across all levels.
Meseko assured party members that the APC remains committed to fairness in its internal processes while working to maintain its dominance as Nigeria’s governing party.
