APC Denies Reports of Being Declared Terrorist Organisation By Canadian Court

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports circulating in sections of the media that a Canadian court declared the ruling party a terrorist organisation.

In a statement on Friday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the reports as “highly erroneous and misleading,” stressing that no such declaration was made in the judgment referenced.

The reports had linked the decision of Justice Phuong T.V. Ngo of the Federal Court of Canada in the case between one Douglas Egharevba and the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to the APC. The case revolved around Egharevba’s appeal against a ruling of the Canadian Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) that found him inadmissible under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA).

According to the APC, the June 17, 2025 judgment made no pronouncement labelling the party a terrorist organisation. Instead, the court upheld the IAD’s conclusion that Egharevba’s membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made him inadmissible on grounds of subversion.

The judgment noted that the PDP, its members, and supporters engaged in subversive acts against Nigeria’s democratic process with the aim of retaining political power. The judge specifically refrained from analysing terrorism allegations, having already affirmed the IAD’s position on subversion.

Morka clarified that the only mention of APC in the 16-page ruling appeared in the “Background” section, where Egharevba claimed to have been a member of the PDP from 1999 to 2007 and of the APC from 2007 to 2017. He described this as factually false, noting that the APC did not exist until its formal registration in 2013.

“The claim that APC was declared a terrorist organisation is patently erroneous, if not mischievous. The court did not, and could not, have made such a declaration since APC was not a party to the case,” Morka said.

He urged party supporters and Nigerians at large to disregard the reports, describing them as misleading and without basis in fact or law.
