Anambra State Abolishes Monday Sit-At-Home

The Anambra State Government has officially terminated the Monday sit-at-home practice with immediate effect.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo signed an executive order following a state executive council retreat on January 21, 2026, bringing an end to the weekly shutdown that has affected the South-East region since August 2021.
The Governor said in the order that all schools, offices, and businesses must operate normally on Mondays.
“Civil servants who fail to report to work on Mondays will face salary sanctions (20% deduction or total forfeiture).
“Starting February 2026, a new clock-in/clock-out system will track attendance, with salaries paid on a pro-rata basis.
“This is a major step toward restoring normalcy, boosting economic activities, and protecting the education of our children in Anambra State,” the Governor said.
