The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has arrested a 29-year-old man, Ogunbemi Adebayo, for allegedly serving as an informant to bandits linked to a series of kidnappings and terror attacks across the state.

Adebayo was paraded on Tuesday alongside three other suspects at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure.

Speaking during the parade, the State Commander of the Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, said the suspect confessed to providing intelligence to kidnappers operating from the Ago Dada Camp in Akure North Local Government Area.

Adeleye disclosed that Adebayo also admitted to receiving weapons training from the criminals.

“He confessed that he acted as an informant to kidnappers. He told us he was recruited a few months ago, thinking it was for a harmless purpose, until he was taken to Ademekun farmland, where Fulani men trained him on how to operate an AK-47 rifle,” Adeleye said.

The commander explained that Adebayo’s arrest followed a joint operation involving Amotekun operatives, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the local regent, and residents of Ademekun village.

In a separate development, Adeleye announced the suspension of three Amotekun officers — Abu Taiwo, Akinsipe Victor, and Akinjumi Julius — over alleged gross misconduct and breach of the Corps’ operational code. The trio have also been declared wanted.

“They acted in isolation, and the Corps remains united and committed to its mandate. We will not allow the misconduct of a few individuals to tarnish our reputation,” the commander stated, hinting that the errant officers may have external sponsors.

Other suspects paraded included Nasiru Suleiman, accused of vandalizing government-owned caterpillars and heavy-duty machines, as well as Saliu Nureni and Ahmed Oladimeji, who were arrested for an armed robbery attack at the NEPA Market in Akure, during which they allegedly set a victim’s property on fire.
