As the outburst by the immediate past governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun on his plan to scuttle the second term bid of Governor Dapo Abiodun of the state continues to generate discussion in the political terrain, Abiodun has broken his silence on the issue.

Abiodun, while addressing a political gathering in Ado Odo/Ota, Ogun State said that he was surprised that such a statement could come from the immediate past governor of the state, who is also a leader in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who he said supposed to be supporting a candidate from the APC, but preferred to work for the candidate of another party.

Senator Amosun, while featuring on a widely circulated BBC Yoruba programme, unveiled his plan to work for the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the president of Nigeria, and that he would work for Sentor Biyi Otegbeye, the ADC Governorship candidat, as next Ogun State Governor.

In his reaction to the issue, Governor Abiodun wondered why “Senator Amosun could be so forgetful after he failed woefully in 2019, when his prefered candidate from Allied Peoples Movement (APM) failed to win the governorship election thwn.

He spoke further, “I watched a programme on the television recently, when a former governor of the state said that he would work for our presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 general elections, but that for the governorship election, he would support someone from another party.

“He is a member of the APC and he said he will not work for the party’s flagbearer at the state level.

“He is someone that could not even work to become a candidate of our party and he is saying that he won’t work for the party during the forthcoming election in the state.

“Was he part of those that worked for my emergence during the 2019 election? God will surprise them.”
