AFCON 2025: Super Eagles Dismiss Rumpus Claims, Camp United After Mozambique Rout

The Nigeria Super Eagles camp has firmly debunked rumours of internal discord following Monday night’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique’s Mambas, a result that secured the three-time champions a place in the quarter-finals of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Speculation of a fallout emerged after striker Victor Osimhen was seen gesturing towards fellow forward Ademola Lookman shortly before a corner kick, sparking conjecture across traditional and digital media platforms.
Reacting on Tuesday evening, Team Administrator Dayo Enebi Achor dismissed the claims as unfounded.
“There is no problem whatsoever in our camp. Whatever people saw as a crisis between two brothers was easily resolved a couple of hours later. All is good and we are presently at training,” Achor said.
He also refuted reports that striker Jerome Akor Adams abandoned the team camp. According to Achor, Adams briefly left with permission to visit his mother, who was hospitalised in Fès, and returned in less than an hour. Adams had earlier marked the night with his first-ever AFCON goal.
Deputy captain Osimhen scored a brace in the encounter, taking his international tally to 34 goals in 50 appearances for Nigeria—just three shy of the national senior record of 37 goals held by the late Rashidi Yekini.
Ademola Lookman, who had already recorded two goals and two assists in the tournament before the match, added another goal and three superb assists against Mozambique, underlining his influence in the squad.
All 26 available players took part in Tuesday evening’s training session at the Sardienne Complex, with young defender Ryan Alebiosu the only absentee as he continues his recovery.
The Super Eagles will move to Marrakech on Thursday ahead of their quarter-final clash on Saturday, where they will face Algeria.
