ADC Blames Tinubu Over Rising Insecurity After U.S. Labels Nigeria Country Of Concern

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has blamed the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, following the designation of the country as a “country of particular concern” by United States President Donald Trump on October 31, 2025.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, November 3, 2025, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the U.S. action underscores the global anxiety over the sanctity of human life and the failure of governments to protect their citizens.

“The statement by President Trump reminds us of the greater global concern about the sanctity of human life and the cardinal responsibility of national governments to protect the lives of people who live within their borders,” the ADC said. “It reminds us that in the modern world, concern for human rights, for which the right to life is the most fundamental, transcends national boundaries.”

The party lamented that under President Tinubu, insecurity has reached unprecedented levels, with nearly 15,000 people reportedly killed in violent attacks since 2023. It accused the administration of indifference, political posturing, and failure to take responsibility for a national tragedy that has engulfed all regions of the country.

“Entire communities have been sacked, worshippers have been slaughtered in religious spaces, and bandits now control large territories, waging war at will and levying taxes on citizens with impunity,” the statement said. “Boko Haram, once declared technically degraded, is regaining strength, while another international terror group has claimed successful attacks on Nigerian soil.”

Citing a recent incident in Kwara State allegedly carried out by JNIM, an Al-Qaeda affiliate operating in the Sahel region, the ADC said the crisis was not about religion or ethnicity but a failure to safeguard every Nigerian life.

The party further accused the Tinubu administration of diplomatic lapses that have weakened Nigeria’s global standing, including its failure to appoint ambassadors more than two years into its term. It also faulted what it called a “personalized foreign policy” focused on promoting the image of the president rather than the nation.

“Under President Tinubu, Nigeria has declined both as a continental and regional leader. Nothing underlines this decline more than the fracturing of ECOWAS under his watch,” the statement added.

The ADC outlined a series of recommendations, including a complete overhaul of the national security apparatus, appointment of qualified ambassadors, a reset of foreign policy, economic reforms to stabilize prices, and an end to the personalization of public institutions.

While commending President Trump and other world leaders for their concern, the party cautioned against foreign military intervention, urging instead for global support to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and capacity to address its challenges.

“Nigeria is not beyond saving, but time is running out,” the statement concluded. “We must act now, with courage, clarity, and a commitment to protect the lives and dignity of every Nigerian. Certainly, Nigeria cannot continue like this.”
