A Shining Light Dimmed: Okunland Mourns the Loss of Hajiya Rekiya Alfa (Hajia London)

Today, a heavy cloud of sorrow hangs over the land of Okun and the entire Kogi West senatorial district as the community grapples with the heartbreaking loss of one of its most cherished daughters — Hajiya Rekiya Alfa, fondly known as Hajia London. Her departure has left a void that words can scarcely fill, but her life remains a testament to the quiet power of love, leadership, and sacrifice.
Hajiya Rekiya was more than just a name. She was a beacon of hope, a voice of reason, and a pillar of strength to many. A devoted political leader and a fearless advocate for justice and equity, she dedicated her life to the betterment of Okunland and its people. As a trusted ally of Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, her political journey was deeply rooted in service, integrity, and compassion. Together, they championed the cause of the marginalized, pushed for inclusive development, and inspired a new generation of leadership in Kogi West.
But beyond the politics, it was her heart that stood out.
Known far and wide for her benevolence and humility, Hajia London carried herself with a grace that was rare and magnetic. Whether she was spearheading a grassroots empowerment program, mentoring young women, or quietly settling disputes in the community, her actions were always driven by a genuine desire to uplift others. Her doors — and her heart — were always open.
“She never waited for applause,” one mourner shared, eyes wet with grief. “She simply did what was right, what was kind. Hajia London was the kind of leader we dream of — firm yet soft, strong yet gentle.”
Her relationship with the people transcended titles and elections. She was a mother to the motherless, a sister to the struggling, and a friend to the forgotten. She gave not just wealth, but time. Not just advice, but presence. In villages and towns, her name is whispered in prayers of gratitude — a woman who gave her all, even when no one was watching.
As news of her passing rippled through the land, the outpouring of grief has been overwhelming. Leaders, elders, youths, and even political rivals have paused to pay tribute to a woman who gave her life to the service of her people.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un — to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.”
As we lay her to rest, we do so with broken hearts but also with immense pride. Hajiya Rekiya Alfa lived well, loved deeply, and led with courage. Her legacy will continue to guide the path of Okunland.
May Almighty Allah, in His boundless mercy, forgive her shortcomings, elevate her station, and grant her Al-Jannah Firdaus. And may He grant her family, her political allies like Hon. Biodun Faleke, and the people she so dearly loved the strength to bear this great loss.
Hajia London may have departed this world, but her spirit will forever echo in Kogi West — a light that death cannot dim.
