Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah, Receives Membership Card From The APC

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially presented the party’s membership card to the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, confirming his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party.
The presentation ceremony took place at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, with the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, handing the card to the governor.
“The APC National Working Committee (NWC) has formally presented the Party’s membership card to the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah @PNMbah, officially marking his entry into the APC.”
The development came hours after Mbah publicly announced his decision to join the APC in a state broadcast titled “Charting a New Course: Transition from PDP to APC.”
In his address, Governor Mbah said his move was not driven by personal or emotional reasons but was a strategic decision made after months of consultation with stakeholders across political, traditional, and religious lines.
“This is not about personal ambition. It is about ensuring that Enugu’s development is fully aligned with the policies and programmes of the Federal Government under President Tinubu. We are taking this step for the greater good of our people,” he said.
Mbah noted that the South East region had remained loyal to the PDP for decades but was often “disregarded when it mattered most.” He said joining the APC would ensure that Enugu’s voice is heard at the national level.
Describing President Bola Tinubu as “a partner in purpose and a leader with the courage to make tough choices for the country’s progress,” Mbah said his defection represented “a conscious step towards a more compelling future for Enugu.”
He assured residents that ongoing developmental projects across the state — including Smart Green Schools, healthcare centres, and road networks — would continue without interruption.
“Our Igbo DNA does not change; our destiny does not change. What changes is that our vision now finds stronger reinforcement at the federal level,” the governor added.
Mbah was accompanied to the ceremony by prominent political figures from Enugu, including his predecessor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, members of the State Executive Council, National Assembly, and local government chairmen.
He also reaffirmed Enugu’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, a federal initiative aimed at empowering 8.8 million Nigerians across 8,809 electoral wards.
