Ex-Amotekun DG Raises Alarm Over “Criminal Infiltration” of Osun Security Corps

The Pioneer Director-General of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Amitolu Shittu, has alleged that the state’s security outfit has been infiltrated by criminal elements through improper recruitment under its current leadership.

Shittu, who was appointed in April 2020 by the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, made the startling revelation while speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Saturday.

According to him, the current State Commander of the corps, Isaac Adekunle Omoyele, has allegedly recruited “cultists, ex-convicts, and hard drug users” into the security network, a situation he said has eroded public confidence in the outfit’s operations.

“The current State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Isaac Omoyele, recruited all manner of criminals into the corps. Cultists, ritualists, ex-convicts, hard drug users and dealers were taken into the group and handed arms. They must be subjected to fresh profiling by the security agencies,” Shittu stated.

He warned that the individuals allegedly brought into the system now pose security threats to residents across Osun State, claiming that the integrity of the corps has been compromised.

Shittu further accused Omoyele of “personalising” the agency and diverting its operatives to functions not recognised under the law establishing Amotekun.

The former DG urged Governor Ademola Adeleke and relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the allegations and conduct a thorough re-screening of all personnel to restore the credibility of the corps.

As of press time, the Osun Amotekun Command and its leadership were yet to respond to the allegations.
