2027: Why South-West Must Rally Round Makinde For Greater Nigeria–Group

The Seyi Makinde Disciples (SMD), a support group for Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has said that Southwest leaders should rally round the pace-setter governor to take over from President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Prince Laja Adeoye, the Convener of the group and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a statement on Monday in Lagos, said that Makinde remained the superior choice—not just for PDP but for Nigeria as a whole.
Adeoye said:”As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, the nation stands at a pivotal crossroads.
“With Tinubu’s tenure drawing to a close, the clarion call for a fresh, dynamic leadership resonates louder than ever. Makinde remains a beacon of progressive governance.
“As a young, erudite Yoruba leader who has transformed Oyo State in just six years, Makinde represents the renewal the country desperately needs to reclaim its greatness.”
Calling on Nigerians to entrust the leadership of the country in the hand of Makinde, the PDP chieftain said that the governor remained a better choice and a visionary leader for a new Nigeria.
According to him, Makinde, a petroleum engineer, is not just a politician he is a proven administrator whose track record speaks volumes.
“He (Makinde) has demonstrated an uncanny ability to deliver results without burdening the people—evidenced by his refusal to hike taxes while exponentially growing Oyo’s economy,” Adeoye said.
According to him, in an era where Nigerian leadership is often synonymous with unfulfilled promises, Makinde stands out as a doer.
He said that Makinde’s administration had been people-centered policies, prioritising equity, turning Oyo State into a model of what federal governance could achieve.
“Imagine scaling this blueprint nationwide: a Nigeria where education empowers the youth, healthcare saves lives without breaking the bank, and infrastructure connects communities.
“Makinde is not chasing power for its sake; he’s driven by a mission to build a prosperous, united federation.
“Under his stewardship, Nigeria wouldn’t just survive—it would thrive, fostering innovation, job creation, and global competitiveness,” he said.
Adeoye said that Makinde represents Yoruba aspirations and did not have baggage of controversy.
Adeoye said: “His (Makinde) governance has transcended parochial interests, fostering alliances across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
“Yorubas will flock to Makinde because he delivers: roads that ease daily commutes, schools that ignite dreams, and security that restores peace.
“In him, the Southwest sees not a mere politician, but a ksteward who will safeguard Yoruba interests at Aso Rock while championing national unity.
“Supporting Makinde isn’t about ethnicity; it is about elevating a leader who proves Yoruba excellence on the global stage, silencing critics and inspiring pride.
“The 2027 ballot will be a Yoruba renaissance, with Makinde at the helm.”
According to him, the sterling performance of Makinde in Oyo remains the blueprint for PDP’s 2027 victory
“For the PDP, Seyi Makinde is the undisputed frontrunner—the candidate whose gubernatorial success positions the party to reclaim the presidency.
He said that since assuming office in 2019, Makinde had transformed a “debt-ridden state into an economic powerhouse.
“His achievements across sectors serve as irrefutable evidence of his readiness to lead Nigeria.
“Smart enough to innovate, young enough to endure, and educated enough to inspire, he has turned Oyo’s challenges into triumphs,” Adeoye said. (NAN).
