Agbamuche Takes Over As Acting INEC Chairman

Professor Mahmood Yakubu has officially handed over the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, who now serves as the Acting National Chairman of the commission.
Yakubu made the announcement on Tuesday during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the INEC headquarters in Abuja. He explained that Agbamuche, being the oldest serving National Commissioner, would oversee the affairs of the commission pending the appointment of a substantive chairman.
In his remarks, Professor Yakubu expressed confidence in Agbamuche’s experience and capacity to steer the commission effectively during the transition period. He also urged the Resident Electoral Commissioners and directors to extend their full cooperation and support to her, emphasizing the need for continuity and stability in the commission’s operations.
May Agbamuche-Mbu, a lawyer and former publisher, has been part of the INEC leadership since her appointment as National Commissioner representing Delta, Edo, and Cross River States.
