Young Woman Brutalized In Ibadan Over Alleged Same-Sex Relationship

A 22-year-old woman, identified as Fidelis Tina Odunayo, has been left hospitalized after being brutally assaulted over allegations of engaging in same-sex activities in Egbeda, Ibadan, oyo state.
The incident reportedly occurred on October 1, 2025, around 4:00 p.m. at the Prestige Guest House, Egbeda, in Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to sources, Fidelis and her female partner were secretly recorded by two hotel attendants who allegedly installed hidden cameras in their room after suspecting the pair were lesbians. The workers reportedly planned to use the footage to blackmail the young women.
When Fidelis allegedly refused to continue paying ransom to the blackmailers, the explicit video was leaked to local youths. The footage triggered outrage in the community, leading to a mob attack on her residence. Eyewitnesses said she was dragged out, stripped naked, and beaten into a coma.
Her partner is said to have gone into hiding. Fidelis was later rescued by a good Samaritan and taken to a nearby hospital where she was revived.
A community leader who spoke under anonymity described same-sex relationships as a “taboo” in the area.
Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command stated that an investigation is underway. He assured that those behind the blackmail and assault would be arrested and prosecuted. However, he also added that Fidelis herself would face charges since same-sex relationships remain outlawed under Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act of 2014.
