OPC National Leader, Akinpelu Laments Insecurity In Kwara South ..Faults Tinubu On Independence Day Broadcast

A National Leader of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Comrade Adesina Akinpelu, has faulted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for failing to mention the growing insecurity faced by Yorubas in the North Central region in his national broadcast marking Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary.
President Tinubu had, in item thirteen of his national broadcast this morning, addressed the issue of security, assuring of his administration’s determination to stamp out Boko Haram terror in the North-East, IPOB/ESN terror in the South-East, and banditry and kidnapping.
The President also declared that his government is winning the war against terrorism and banditry, as “peace has returned to hundreds of our liberated communities in the North-West and North-East, and thousands of our people have returned safely to their homes.”
However, the OPC National Leader lamented that “Tinubu’s address reflected the Federal Government’s insensitivity to the security challenges faced by the Yorubas in the North Central region, particularly in Kwara South.”
Comrade Akinpelu called on President Tinubu and Governor Abdul Rahman Abdul-Razaq of Kwara State to take urgent action to address the invasion of Yoruba villages and killings of Yoruba people in Kwara South.
Akinpelu lamented that Oreke, Babalola, Sagbe, Babasango, Alasoro, Olorunte, and many other Yoruba villages in the Ile-Ire District of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have been taken over by Fulani bandits.
The OPC leader further lamented that the bandits later moved to the Oyetedo/Oro-Ago District, where they killed Chief Depo Aina Kebe inside the premises of his hotel in Oro-Ago, while one Mr. Tunde Olaoye was kidnapped on September 12 and has not been released up till now, despite the fact that a ransom had been paid.
Akinpelu added: “The bandits moved to Oke-Ode town, where they killed twenty people in cold blood in the early hours of last Sunday. There is one man, a major pillar of OPC in Lagos State. His name is Abdullahi Olowonla. He recently retired to his hometown in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. He was among the twenty people killed by the invading bandits.”
He stressed that it appears that the Federal Government and Governor Abdul-Razaq do not care about the security of lives and property of Yorubas in Kwara South.
The OPC leader used the occasion of 65th independence anniversary to call on President Tinubu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and security chiefs to act urgently to restore peace in Kwara South, where the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Chief Lateef Fagbemi, hails from.
Akinpelu expressed the readiness of the OPC to assist the Federal Government in the fight against rising insecurity in Kwara South.
He called on all factions of the OPC, including the Fredrick Fasheun faction, Iba Gani Adams faction, New Era faction, OPC Reformed, and other relevant Yoruba groups to join hands in the fight against the invasion of Yoruba villages in Kwara South.
