The family of the late former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, has raised pressing questions over the circumstances surrounding his sudden death, describing it as “shocking and inexplicable.”

Akingboye, fondly known as OBA, was reported to have died quietly in his Victoria Garden City, Ajah residence on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. But in the days following his passing, disturbing details have emerged, prompting calls for a full-scale investigation.

His eldest son, Samuel, said he last saw his father a day before his death and could not reconcile the official accounts with the reality of what followed.

“I saw him the day before. So, it is very shocking to see this happen. That is why I opened the case to find out how he died, because I wasn’t getting any explanation. It has been very tough, and I just want to do my best to understand how he died. There has to be an explanation, and that explanation is what we are looking forward to,” he stated.

Suspicion grew after a photograph of the late politician’s body circulated online, showing visible bruises on his head. Adding to the mystery, an overseas-based investigator, Olujimi Lijoka, alleged in a viral video that N205 million was suspiciously moved from Akingboye’s account within hours of his death, spread across three separate accounts. He urged the Ikale community to demand justice for their son.

There were also unconfirmed reports suggesting Akingboye may have sustained injuries during a domestic quarrel. But his daughter, Michaella, dismissed such claims, urging restraint.

“I urge the public to debunk everything that has been posted on blogs and social media. Everything is not the truth. We believe the police are carrying out their investigation diligently, and the truth will surely come to light. The whole family stands with the police,” she said.

Detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, have since visited the residence. Five domestic staff were reportedly taken in for questioning, while both physical and biological evidence was collected from the scene.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood, assured the public that the Command will pursue the case thoroughly.

“He was said to be hale and hearty, and his body was found in his compound. This was someone who slept with his family in his house. All of this needs to be investigated. We will not leave any stone unturned to ensure the cause of his death is unraveled. And where there is any reasonable suspicion, we will ensure those involved are apprehended,” he declared.

For now, grief, shock, and unanswered questions cloud the Akingboye household. As the investigation deepens, the family and community wait anxiously for the truth to come to light.
