Nigeria’s sprint queen, Tobi Amusan, on Monday delivered another dazzling performance at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, clinching the silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles.

Amusan, the reigning world record holder, powered through the fiercely contested final to finish in 12.29 seconds. It was, however, Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji who stole the spotlight, storming to gold with a new Swiss national record of 12.24 seconds.

The 28-year-old Nigerian’s silver medal is Nigeria’s first podium finish at this year’s championships, underlining her continued dominance and consistency in the hurdles event.

The United States secured the remaining podium spot as Grace Stark ran 12.34 seconds to take bronze, narrowly edging out compatriot Masai Russell, who finished fourth in 12.44 seconds.

Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska and the Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton shared fifth place with season-best times of 12.49 seconds, while Jamaica’s Danielle Williams placed seventh in 12.53 seconds, and Nadine Visser of the Netherlands rounded out the final in 12.56 seconds.

Amusan, who set the world record of 12.12 seconds in 2022, has remained a formidable force in the women’s hurdles for the past three years. Her silver in Tokyo once again cements her reputation as one of the most consistent performers on the global stage.
