Abdulmumin Jibrin Breaks Silence on Expulsion, Ends Membership of NNPP

Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, has announced the end of his membership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), describing his sudden expulsion from the party as a “surprise and a rude shock.”
In an official statement released this evening, Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, said he was not given a fair hearing before the party leadership reached its decision to expel him.
According to him, the disciplinary action followed interviews he granted in both English and Hausa, where he expressed his views on party affairs. He insisted that his statements were in line with the core principles of the NNPP, which he believed encouraged freedom of expression and dissenting opinions.
“No invitation was extended to me to defend or explain myself by any organ of the party, neglecting the very important principle of fair hearing, due process and justice that the NNPP cry out loud and demand from others,” Jibrin said.
“Even under military dictatorship, an accused is subjected to a court martial. Perhaps, if the appropriate processes were followed, the need for such harsh decision to force me out of a party and family I love so dearly may not be necessary.”
The Kano politician lamented that despite his desire to continue serving under the NNPP, the decision of the party was final, and he had chosen to accept it “in good faith and without grudges.” He, however, stressed that the expulsion was null and void in his view, as it was not rooted in due process.
Addressing allegations of non-payment of party dues, Jibrin clarified that he had never refused to pay and urged the leadership to send him an invoice so he could settle any outstanding obligations. He further appealed to the NNPP to allow a peaceful separation without resorting to personal attacks or insults.
Reflecting on his political journey, Jibrin accused the party of failing to recognize the political value of its members, saying it often treated people without the respect they deserved.
“I am grateful to the Almighty for whatever value I have, no matter how little, and will be more than glad to invest it where it will be appreciated with dignity rather than in a place where no matter what you bring on board, you are a nobody and you brought nothing,” he declared.
Jibrin thanked the NNPP for the support he enjoyed during his time in the party and expressed pride in his contributions to its growth. He assured his supporters of his commitment to continue his political journey, hinting that he would carefully weigh his options before deciding on his next political home.
“I welcome all my supporters who wish to join me in my new journey. But for those who choose to remain in NNPP, I hold no grudges against them. Finally, I will carefully weigh all the options before me as I decide on my next political home. So help me God,” he concluded.
Jibrin’s exit marks another high-profile departure from the NNPP, which has recently faced internal crises over leadership struggles, factional disputes, and questions about party loyalty.
