The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a pastor in Mpape, Abuja, over allegations of sexually exploiting a 13-year-old girl under the guise of counseling.

The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the Mpape community, was reported on August 2, 2025, at about 6:03 p.m., when a resident of Dogo Block, off Mashafa Road, alerted authorities. The complainant, a mother, had raised alarm after her daughter—who had been missing for four days—returned home.

In a bid to discipline the child, a neighbor identified as Pastor Joseph (surname withheld) intervened, suggesting that the girl be brought to his residence for counseling. Instead, it was later discovered that the so-called spiritual guide had allegedly taken advantage of the vulnerable minor.

Police operatives swiftly arrested the suspect and moved both him and the victim to a medical facility for examination. Authorities confirmed that the girl is receiving medical treatment and psychological support in line with protocols for victims of child sexual abuse.

“This case is being handled under Nigeria’s child rights and sexual violence laws. The suspect will face due legal process,” a security source told First Weekly Magazine.

If convicted, Pastor Joseph could face severe penalties, including imprisonment, in accordance with Nigeria’s stringent laws against child exploitation.

The case underscores the growing concern over sexual abuse of minors and the exploitation of trust within communities, even by figures who claim to hold spiritual authority.
