Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have recorded another decisive victory in the ongoing war against terrorism, eliminating no fewer than 13 Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in a failed ambush at Kareto, Borno State.

According to military sources, the incident occurred when the insurgents attempted to spring an ambush on a patrol convoy using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and sustained gunfire. However, the troops, who had anticipated such manoeuvres, responded with superior firepower and tactical precision, overpowering the terrorists in a fierce exchange.

“The gallant troops neutralized 13 terrorists, while others fled with gunshot wounds into nearby bushes. Arms, ammunition and other equipment were also recovered after the encounter,” the source said.

Recovered items included several AK-47 rifles, assorted rounds of ammunition, explosives, motorcycles, and communication devices believed to have been used for coordinating attacks.

The operation has been hailed as another significant blow to the remnants of Boko Haram/ISWAP factions still attempting to regroup in northern Borno, particularly around the Lake Chad Basin axis.

Military authorities have commended the troops for their professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity. They reiterated the resolve of the Nigerian Armed Forces to sustain aggressive operations until terrorism is completely wiped out from the country.

Security analysts note that Kareto, located in Mobbar Local Government Area, has long been a hotspot due to its strategic proximity to the borders with Niger and Chad, making it a critical point of interest for both the military and insurgents.

The latest success comes amid renewed counterterrorism operations aimed at dismantling terrorist hideouts, cutting off supply routes, and restoring lasting peace to Borno and the wider North-East region.
