The lawmaker representing Eti Osa Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, who doubles as the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Noheem Adams, has empowered 250 residents of the area with N100,000 each totalling N25 million.
Adams, whose Stakeholders’ Meeting is the 7th in the series, stated at the event which held on Thursday at Orchid Hotel, Eleganza with the Theme: “Governance In Action: The Gains Of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” that the residents of the area believe in him, which he said was why they sent him to the assembly.
“I thank you all for believing in me and for sending me to the Lagos State House of Assembly. Today, I am called “honourable” because of your belief in me. I thank you for this and I promise not to ever disappoint you
“Today, I will give out N25 million naira cash as empowerment to 250 persons as each of them will get N100,000. We will also give out 100 POS machines to 100 of the beneficiaries of the money today to start business in that line.
“We are not transferring money to anybody, it will be given out in cash today,” he said.
He however, promised to continue to do his best for the people of the Constituency and Lagos State in general.
Also speaking, Senator Wasiu Sanni-Eshinlokun, representing Lagos Central at the Senate and former deputy speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, revealed that the National Assembly will vote N1 billion for the rehabilitation of Lekki- Epe Expressway and that he would personally provide books for some students that are resuming schools in September.
He also promised to provide solar panels to some areas in the constituency.
He said that he will always find ways to empower the people, and donated N3million to the money that would be given out at the event.
In his speech delivered across the 40 constituencies in the state, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa said that this year’s theme; “Governance In Action: The Gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” was carefully chosen to highlight the tangible benefits of governance.
He said that this is in alignment with the Renewed Hope Initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Obasa said that this also reflects the strides they are making in Lagos State and at the state house of assembly in particular.
“Under the dynamic leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our nation has witnessed an inspiring transformation; a renewal of the national spirit and a reinvention of the Nigerian state.
“Today, I stand before you to celebrate these tangible achievements, to affirm our commitment to good governance and to reaffirm that our renewed hope is not merely a slogan, but a call to action and a vision in progress.
“From the moment President Tinubu assumed office, his government set forth on an inspiring ambitious journey of reform, innovation and modernisation. Some of the notable achievements include; Economic Reforms and Recovery, Infrastructure and Urban Transformation, security as well as Digital Transformation,” he said.
The Speaker added that under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the administration has aggressively tackled the challenges of economic stagnation and instability.
He said that strategic economic reforms, including re-engineering mechanisms, have boosted investor confidence and diversified the nation’s economy.
These reforms, he said, have led to an improved credit rating and have laid a strong foundation for economic prosperity and sustainable development.
He emphasised that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is anchored on strategic priority areas crucial for national development.
He added that these priorities underscore the administration’s commitment to driving sustainable growth, enhancing security and improving the quality of life for all Nigerians.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Eti Osa East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Samson Agunbiade, said that a town meeting like this is always important.
Agunbiade said that it is a golden opportunity not only to speak, but to seek cooperation of all, saying that no government can solve the people’s problems alone.
“The state of our environment is not so good. Our waste management is not so good, most of our people dump refuse on the road side and it destroys our environment and endangers our health.
“Cows move freely in our environment and the owners behave as if they are untouchable. We must make use of our laws on defacing of our environment and open grazing.
“Secondly, cultism is becoming rampant in our area, and undeveloped plots of land have become hideouts for miscreants and cultists and they are breeding ground for insecurity.
“People must be told to develop their lands quickly. We must also be active and move against cultism and anybody caught must face punishment. We must protect our youths, and equip them,” he said.
He said further that the economic well being and welfare of the people is important, saying that families, widows, elders and unemployment youths are suffering.
He said that the local government will try to empower people, and appealed to well meaning people to empower people with small businesses and employ the youths.
In his speech, the Deputy Chairman of Iru LCDA, Hon. Murisiq Ajasa who represented the Chairman, said that they have done much in a month, including community engagement and that they have reactivated ward level discussions.
“We have opened discussions on healthcare services for the residents.
“We have constructed the road on Ajose Adeogun. We have done environmental clean up to tackle flooding.
“Residents have asked for reduction of noise in the area and we have taken actions on this. We will keep partnering with the people and corporate organisations. We have created rapid responses for complaints about security,” he said.
Mr Daramola Arobadade, the Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos Central urged the people to go and get their PVCs, saying that if they don’t vote, they don’t have right to complain.
“Eti Osa has the highest voting pattern. Let us go out to get our PVCs to avoid the mistakes of 2023.
“On behalf of the Lagos State APC and all the leaders in Eti Osa, I am telling you to make sure you register and have the power to vote. We have instructed the party members and except to provide all possible means to make it easy for people to register,” he said.
