Court Jails Man for Selling “Loud” in Lagos Hotel

Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Lagos, has convicted and sentenced one Obayemi Oyetade to three months imprisonment for dealing in “Loud”—a strain of Cannabis Sativa—at a hotel in Lagos.
Oyetade was sentenced after pleading guilty to a three-count charge of unlawful dealing in the prohibited drug, brought against him by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
According to NDLEA counsel, Julianna Negedu, the convict was arrested on July 19, 2025, at Sarah Sam Hotel, located at No. 115 Ogudu Road, Kosofe, Lagos, where he was caught selling the narcotics.
He was found in possession of 22.9 grams of Canadian Loud, 1.30 kilograms of chocolate infused with Loud, and 900 grams of gummies mixed with Loud.
Negedu told the court that Oyetade’s actions contravened Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, which prescribes penalties for dealing in narcotic drugs.
Upon arraignment on charge No. FHC/L/655c/2025, the defendant pleaded guilty and confessed that he had been selling the drug since 2021.
His counsel, Emmanuel Okenyi, pleaded for leniency, urging the court to consider a fine in lieu of imprisonment, noting that his client did not waste the court’s time and had admitted guilt at the earliest opportunity.
In his judgment, Justice Dipeolu sentenced Oyetade to three months imprisonment, with an option of ?1 million fine.
The charges read in part:
