Tinubu Approves Massive Cut In Dialysis Cost At Federal Hospitals

President Bola Tinubu has approved a major subsidy on the cost of kidney dialysis in federal hospitals across the country, slashing the price per session from N50,000 to just N12,000.
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Information, announced the development in a statement shared on his X handle Monday. He described the move as a lifeline for thousands of Nigerians struggling with kidney-related ailments.
“With this intervention, the cost of each dialysis session has been reduced from N50,000 to N12,000, bringing relief to citizens battling kidney diseases,” Bwala said.
The new subsidised rate has already taken effect in leading federal medical facilities across the six geopolitical zones. Benefiting hospitals include:
- Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta, Lagos
- Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja
- University College Hospital, Ibadan
- Federal Medical Centre, Owerri
- University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri
- Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta
- Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos
- Federal Medical Centre, Azare
- University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin
- University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar
According to Bwala, additional federal medical centres and teaching hospitals will join the scheme before the year ends, expanding access to affordable care nationwide.
He also recalled that President Tinubu had earlier approved free caesarean section (C-section) services in federal hospitals, aimed at tackling maternal mortality.
“Together, these measures reflect the Renewed Hope Agenda in action—making sure no Nigerian is denied healthcare because of financial barriers,” Bwala added.
