Sting Operation At OOPL: EFCC Arraigns 23 Suspected Internet Fraudsters Friday

Following the arrest of 93 suspected internet fraudsters at a hotel within the precincts of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will, on Friday, August 15, 2025, arraign 23 of them before Justice D. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Preliminary profiling revealed that nearly all the suspects face allegations of impersonation, identity theft, and other forms of internet fraud.

The arraignment, which will be conducted in batches, stems from the EFCC’s raid on a pool party where the suspects were celebrating their illicit gains. The party, initially scheduled to hold at two separate venues, was moved to the hotel within OOPL in an apparent bid to evade EFCC operatives.

Investigations showed that the organisers, aware of the Commission’s surveillance, believed the OOPL premises would offer them cover from arrest. The EFCC clarified that the former President’s facility was never a target, stressing that its focus was solely on the suspects, many of whom have since confessed to their crimes.

The remaining suspects are expected to be arraigned in due course.
