Keyamo Defends Clemency For KWAM 1, Comfort Emmanson, Unveils Good Conduct Campaign

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, has responded to mounting criticism over his decision to grant clemency to Fuji star Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) and Ms. Comfort Emmanson for recent aviation-related offences.
In a post on his official X handle, @fkeyamo, Keyamo stressed that both individuals had shown genuine remorse, making them suitable candidates for voluntary community service roles aimed at promoting discipline in the aviation sector.
He explained that KWAM 1 is being considered for a public advocacy role to campaign against unruly behaviour in airports, while the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) are weighing plans to appoint Ms. Emmanson — released from prison custody on Wednesday — as “Ambassador for Good Passenger Conduct.” The role, Keyamo emphasised, would be unpaid and similar to community service, with the aim of sensitising travellers through direct engagement.
“This is not about perks or privileges; it is about setting an example,” Keyamo wrote. “Such measures are common worldwide and have been implemented in Nigeria by past governments. We believe these steps are fair and constructive. Critics can continue to question our approach, but we are confident this will send the right message.”
