Five Nigerian women suspected of engaging in prostitution have been arrested in Ghana during a police raid aimed at curbing criminal activity within the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The arrests were part of an unannounced security operation conducted by the Asokwa District Police Command on July 30, 2025, between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The operation targeted known criminal hideouts and ghettos across the municipality.

In total, twelve individuals were apprehended—seven men and five women—at various locations. According to the police, the five female suspects later confessed to engaging in prostitution as a means of survival.

The women identified themselves as Empress David, 22; Sonia Isaac, 24; Loveth Michael, 18; Success Moses, 21; and Victor Alice, 23. Police said the women had been operating in the Sokoban Wood Village area.

A statement by the Asokwa District Command confirmed:
“On 30/7/25, between the hours of 1800 and 2000, the Asokwa District Command embarked on a swoop exercise within the Asokwa Municipality. During the exercise, 12 people were arrested. Five of the suspects are female Nigerians who admitted having been engaging in prostitution at Sokoban Wood Village.”

The seven male suspects were also picked up from ghettos suspected to be drug bases, particularly around Asago. They were identified as Jacob Amaliba, 30; Usif Awuro, 39; Adu Kofi, 22; Kwame Atobiga, 39; Isaac Boamah, 27; Emmanuel Boakye, 29; and Pekazine Puakan, 28.

Police said a search was conducted on all suspects, but nothing incriminating was found. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are currently in custody, awaiting screening and profiling.
