Security operatives have arrested a suspected cult leader, Favour Nosaghare, alongside four others, over alleged involvement in cult-related activities at Igbinedion University, Okada.

The arrests, which took place on Sunday, July 28, followed a tip-off from the university’s internal security personnel, who raised an alarm around 3:20 p.m. after Nosaghare — previously suspended from the institution over cultism allegations — was seen loitering on campus in the company of other suspected cult members.

Responding swiftly, security operatives apprehended Nosaghare and four students of the university: Emmanuel Omogiyo, Osaigie Gerald, Obiorah Chukwudi, and Esther Chukwuma. The suspects are believed to be affiliated with the notorious Black Axe confraternity, commonly known as “Aye.”

During the operation, authorities recovered various items including several wraps of Indian hemp, a packet of rolling papers (Rizla), and a metallic grinder, commonly referred to as a “crusher.”

Upon interrogation, Nosaghare allegedly confessed to being involved in cult activities and identified his accomplices.

Authorities say further investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the group’s operations and to identify other possible members. The university management has yet to release an official statement on the incident, but sources confirm that disciplinary measures and criminal prosecution are being considered.

The arrest underscores renewed efforts by security agencies and tertiary institutions in Edo State to clamp down on cultism and restore safety on campuses.
