The member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. James Faleke, has said that he was not a co-sponsor of the proposed Indigenous Bill currently before the National Assembly.
Faleke made this known in a statement on his X handle.
The federal lawmaker said that he did not support the Bill, and believed it stands no chance of being ratified by the states.
”I have noticed a number of tags and mentions on my social media platforms regarding the proposed Indigenous Bill currently before the National Assembly.
” Let me state categorically that I am not a co-sponsor of the Bill. Any suggestion to the contrary is entirely false and misleading.
“I do not support the Bill, and I believe it stands no chance of being ratified by the states. It is, therefore, unreasonable to suggest that I would align myself with such a proposal.
“I urge the public to disregard these unfounded claims and remain guided by verified facts”, said Faleke.
The bill, sponsored by Hon. Kalu Okezie, seeks to grant indigenous rights to Nigerians who have either lived in a particular place for 10 years or have been married to an indigenous person for the same period.
