Hon. Kolade David Alabi,

Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State has renamed several prominent roads and landmarks in honour of distinguished Nigerians who have contributed to the nation’s cultural and political landscape.

The announcement was made by the outgoing Chairman of the Council, Hon. Kolade David Alabi, on Friday, July 25, 2025, his last day in office. The event also featured the commissioning of key projects executed under his administration, with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in attendance.

Alabi said the renaming initiative was conceived as a tribute to individuals who have brought pride to Bariga and Nigeria through leadership, creativity, and service.

“As an administration, we took our time to reflect on a number of people who have put the name of our local council on the global map through their respective God-given talents and craft, as well as eminent personalities in our nation, beloved state and council who have contributed immensely to the development of the nation and the state,” he said.

According to the new designation:

  • Ilaje Road becomes King Sunny Ade Road
  • Bariga Road is renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way
  • Community Road in Akoka now bears the name Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road
  • Ajidagan Street is renamed Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street

Alabi, who also served as Chairman of Conference 57, the umbrella body of council chairmen in Lagos State, described the gesture as a way to immortalize excellence and inspire future generations.

“These names now etched into the fabric of our streets serve as a daily reminder of what is possible when talent meets purpose,” he added.
