Aviation Minister Inaugurates FAAN Board, Ganduje Chairs, Kuku Named Vice-Chair

The Federal Government has inaugurated a new Board for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), marking a significant step in the ongoing reforms within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
At a ceremony held at the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development in Abuja, the Honourable Minister, Festus Keyamo SAN, CON, formally inaugurated the board, which is chaired by former Kano State Governor, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, OFR.
Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director/CEO of FAAN, was named Vice-Chair of the board, while Mrs. Bridget Gold, Director of Legal Services at FAAN, will serve as Secretary.
Other members of the board include Mrs. Dorothy Duruaka, Director of International Tourism Relations & Cooperation, Federal Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Creative Economy; Ahmed Ibrahim Sulaiman, Director of Air Force, Ministry of Defence; Engr. Nasiru Muazu, Dean of Air Traffic Service at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT); Dr. Omozojie Okoboh, representative of the Federal Ministry of Justice; and Engr. Peter Vembe, Director of Aerodrome Development, Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
In his remarks, Minister Keyamo described the inauguration as a critical component of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that the board must pursue transparency, innovation, and operational excellence in the management of Nigeria’s airports.
“This inauguration is not just a routine event—it is a solemn call to national duty,” he said. “You are the architects of our aviation future. Your charge is to uphold safety, transparency, innovation, and efficiency in our airports while ensuring they reflect the best of Nigeria to the world.”
He outlined four core mandates for the board: ensuring safety and security in line with global aviation standards; promoting sustainable development; enhancing the passenger experience; and fostering collaboration with stakeholders and international partners.
Responding on behalf of the board, Chairman Dr. Ganduje thanked the Minister for the opportunity to serve and pledged full cooperation with the Ministry. He said the board would commit to good governance and strategic leadership in advancing the aviation sector.
Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Vice-Chair and FAAN MD/CEO, assured Nigerians that the new board would deliver visible improvements across the country’s airports.
“By the end of this administration, Nigerians will be proud of the work we have done to upgrade and modernize our airport infrastructure,” she said.
This was disclosed in a press release issued by Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
