Oguntala, NSE President, Emphasises Role of Professional Bodies in Human Capacity Development For The Future of Energy

The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE, has emphasised the critical role of professional bodies in driving human capacity development for the evolving energy sector.
Oguntala made this known while participating as a distinguished panelist at the NOG Energy Week 2025, one of Africa’s premier energy conferences, held on Monday June 30, 2025 at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
During the Strategic Panel Session themed “Human Capacity Development for the Future of Energy,” NSE President joined other notable industry leaders to discuss effective strategies for workforce development amidst rapidly evolving energy technologies and operational demands. She highlighted the pressing disconnect between academic training and industry needs, noting that many Engineering graduates lack practical, hands-on experience, and there is a growing shortage of talent in areas such as data analytics, AI-driven asset management, and green energy technologies.
The President underscored the need for competency-based training frameworks that integrate internships, project-based learning, and continuous professional development, not only for new entrants but also for mid-career professionals requiring reskilling to remain relevant in the industry. She further emphasized that professional bodies like the NSE plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academia, industry, and policymakers by ensuring ethical standards, driving structured CPD programmes, and supporting mentorship and networking platforms that foster knowledge transfer and inclusivity within the engineering workforce.
The participation of the NSE President reflects the Society’s ongoing commitment to championing Engineering excellence and promoting impactful collaboration within Nigeria’s energy and engineering ecosystem.
