An Ilorin-based popcorn vendor, fondly known as Iya Oniguguru, has become the toast of social media and sports lovers after receiving a surprise cash reward of N1.5 million for her passionate support of Kwara United Football Club during the President Federation Cup final in Lagos.

Determined to back the Harmony Boys to victory, Iya Oniguguru made the long trip from Ilorin to Lagos, carrying her signature snack — guguru — to sell at the stadium while cheering her beloved team.

Her act of loyalty and entrepreneurial spirit caught the attention of many, including the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who gifted her N1 million in appreciation. Another N500,000 followed from prominent businessman and APC stalwart, Alhaji Yahaya Seriki.

The heartwarming gesture has sparked widespread admiration, with many hailing it as a powerful nod to grassroots support and the passion that drives local football culture.

Photos of the ever-smiling Iya Oniguguru in her branded apron, selling popcorn in the stands while waving Kwara United colours, have since gone viral, drawing cheers from far beyond the Kwara fan base.

Supporters say her recognition is a reminder that behind every great team are loyal fans who go the extra mile — and sometimes, all the way to Lagos with a bowl of guguru.
