The Defence Headquarters on Friday disclosed that troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have arrested several suspected logistics suppliers and collaborators of terrorist groups, including a Chinese national posing as a miner, during operations in Borno and Yobe States.

Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed this in Abuja while briefing journalists on recent military operations across the country.

According to Kangye, the Chinese national was apprehended during coordinated operations in Kukawa and Ngala Local Government Areas of Borno State. He is currently in custody undergoing interrogation.

“We have taken him in for questioning. The circumstances surrounding his presence, his actual identity, possible accomplices, and involvement in illegal activities are being thoroughly investigated,” Kangye stated.

He added that a detailed report on the suspect’s motive and the outcome of the investigation would be made public in due course.

In a related development, Kangye noted that scores of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists, including men, women, and children, surrendered to troops between June 6 and June 11. He attributed the development to intensified military pressure and increased operational activities in the northeast.

The military, he said, remains committed to restoring peace and stability across all theatres of operation and continues to step up efforts in tackling the country’s complex security challenges.

“We are committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens, upholding the rule of law, and creating a safe environment for all Nigerians. Transparency remains our watchword, and we will keep the public informed of our operations,” Kangye assured.
