Fubara Urges Rivers People To Thank President Tinubu for Restoring Peace

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged the people of Rivers State and Nigerians at large to express deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his timely intervention in resolving the political crisis that threatened to destabilize the state.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting with leaders of the Simplified Movement on Thursday in Port Harcourt, as part of events marking his two years in office, Governor Fubara emphasized that President Tinubu’s swift and decisive action averted a descent into anarchy.

The statement was released by his media aide, Nelson Chukwudi.

Governor Fubara said, “We are already in the peace process. I want you to thank Mr. President for his timely intervention to salvage the situation and stabilize the polity and the state. If not for Mr. President, the story today would have been different.

“I don’t know how he gets his information, but the truth is that he acted with wisdom at the right time. He is the one you should thank. Let me also personally appreciate him and those across the country who appealed to him to step in.”

He assured supporters that the reconciliation process is underway, aimed at restoring harmony across the executive and legislative arms of government.

“I want to assure you that the issues will soon be resolved. You will return to your offices—both at the executive and legislative levels. I believe that the strong relationships we had before will be restored, and we will begin to work together again for the good and progress of the state. What is important is for us to have a forgiving spirit,” he said.

Fubara called on all Rivers people and supporters to submit fully to the peace process and embrace reconciliation, stressing that the collective interest of the state must come first.

He noted that although the political crisis had cast a shadow over the second anniversary celebrations, his administration had made significant progress in key sectors and would return stronger and more united to deliver quality governance and dividends of democracy.

The governor also addressed those who expressed dissatisfaction over his handling of the crisis, saying, “Anyone who feels disappointed has a right to be. But I acted in the best interest of the state—to protect its peace and ensure progress. If I have offended anyone, I ask for forgiveness.”

He expressed optimism about reconciling with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, revealing that multiple reconciliation meetings had already taken place, including at Wike’s residence in Abuja.

“There’s no reason why there won’t be peace between me and my Oga,” he said, referring to Wike. “There will be peace. We are meeting. We will reconcile.”

Governor Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to serve with humility and respect for the people’s mandate.

“One important thing in this life is respect. I want to earn the respect of the people, not force it on them… I’m with you completely,” he said, thanking Rivers people and Nigerians for their loyalty, support, and prayers throughout the period of political turbulence.
