Prominent Islamic scholar, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, has declared that his Hajj 2025 is spiritually complete, despite being prevented from completing the pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. He returned safely to Nigeria and addressed the matter in a statement rooted in Islamic jurisprudence.

Referring to Qur’an 2:196, which outlines provisions for those who are obstructed during pilgrimage, Sheikh Gumi affirmed the validity of his Hajj in the eyes of Allah.

“Alhamdulillahi, I’ve already completed my Hajj 2025 and I’m now at home in our beloved country. Islam has clearly allowed for this situation. If one is prevented, a sacrifice suffices — and I have done that.”

Though he did not elaborate on specific reasons for the Saudi action, Gumi alluded to political sensitivities surrounding his public commentary on global affairs as a possible cause of the obstruction. He had already been granted a Hajj visa before being turned away.

The cleric expressed appreciation to Nigerian authorities for their swift intervention and pledged to continue his personal and community activities.

“Thanks to the Nigerian authorities who pledged to engage with the Saudi government. That is the strength of our democracy and our national dignity.”

Now focused on his health and farming, Sheikh Gumi also called on Nigerians to pray for the safe return of all pilgrims and for continued peace and progress in the country.

While Saudi authorities have yet to release an official statement, the incident has sparked public discourse around the intersection of politics, religious freedom, and diplomatic relations. The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated contact with Saudi counterparts to seek clarity on the matter.
