Ex-Niger Commissioner Alleges Cancer-Causing Device Found in Wife’s Bra

A former Niger State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Abubakar Katcha, has raised serious concerns after claiming that a bra worn by his wife contained a radioactive device, which he believes caused her serious health issues, including symptoms suggestive of cancer.

The bra, labeled “Made in China,” was reportedly purchased from Kure Market in Minna in October 2023 during preparations for their newborn son’s naming ceremony. Katcha said that shortly after his wife began using the bra, she experienced unusual swelling in her breasts along with a brownish discharge near the nipple. Their infant son also began refusing to breastfeed around the same time.

Katcha explained that they initially sought treatment at a local pharmacy where his wife was given antibiotics and advised to express milk into feeding bottles. Although her condition appeared to improve temporarily, a disturbing discovery on May 18, 2025, reignited their concerns.

“She was washing the bra when she noticed something odd inside it,” Katcha recounted. “She opened it up and found a small battery-like object and another component hidden within. When joined, they emitted high radiation, which we believe caused her symptoms.”

According to him, both cups of the bra contained the same components, and he suspects they were deliberately embedded. He has since called on the Nigerian government to tighten oversight of imported goods, particularly clothing.

“This is not just an isolated issue. If such products are circulating, they pose a serious threat to public health. I fear this may be an intentional effort to cause harm and create dependency on foreign medical treatment,” he warned.

Katcha is urging urgent investigations into the matter and greater scrutiny of imports that could pose risks to citizens’ health.
