Ivory Coast Army Chief Assassinated in Broad Daylight

A dark cloud looms over Côte d’Ivoire following the shocking assassination of General Lassina Doumbia, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. The nation’s top military commander was gunned down in broad daylight shortly after leaving a high-level meeting with Defense Minister Téné Birahima Ouattara.

According to local sources, Doumbia’s convoy came under heavy gunfire just outside the Ministry of Defense in Abidjan. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos, with the general’s vehicle riddled with bullets and its windows shattered. He was rushed to a military hospital but succumbed to his injuries before arrival.

Authorities have not yet identified the attackers or their motives. Was this a carefully orchestrated assassination, an act of terror, or the result of internal power struggles within the military or political elite?

Security forces have locked down key areas of the capital as investigations intensify. The boldness of the attack — in the heart of the capital and in broad daylight — has left the nation stunned and bracing for potential fallout.
