When Faith Meets Politics: Tinubu, Obi, And Fayemi Share A Moment In Rome

By

President Bola Tinubu, Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi, and former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi crossed paths at the installation mass of Pope Leo XIV on Sunday in Rome.
Spotting President Tinubu seated among other dignitaries, Fayemi turned to Obi and said, “Let’s go pay our respects to the President.” Obi nodded in agreement.
Approaching the Nigerian leader, Fayemi broke the ice with a touch of humor:
“Mr. President, welcome to our church, and thank you for honouring the Pope with your presence.”
Tinubu, never one to miss a beat, replied with a smile:
“I should be the one welcoming you and Peter. I’m the Head of the Nigerian Delegation.”
His witty comeback drew laughter from Obi, who graciously responded,
“Yes, indeed. We are members of your delegation.”
Both Obi and Fayemi, devout Catholics and Papal knights, shared a light moment with the President—proof that even in solemn spaces, camaraderie can find a voice.
