Former Bayelsa Military Administrator, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade, Dies at 70

Former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State and retired naval officer, Navy Captain Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade (rtd), has passed away. He died on Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Apapa, Lagos, at the age of 70.

The late Olubolade, a native of Ipoti-Ekiti in Ekiti State, reportedly slumped while playing lawn tennis at a nearby facility. According to a statement issued by his first daughter, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Akinadewo, and first son, Mr. Dayo Olubolade, he had driven himself to the tennis facility that evening when the incident occurred.

“He drove himself to the facility to play lawn tennis in the evening and slumped while playing. Efforts were made by medical officers around to revive him to no avail. He was immediately rushed to Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital, Apapa, where he was pronounced dead,” the statement read.

Olubolade had a distinguished career in public service. In addition to serving as the Military Administrator of Bayelsa State, he also held ministerial roles including Minister of Special Duties, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Minister of Police Affairs.

He celebrated his 70th birthday on November 30, 2024.

Details of his burial arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
