In a major relief for Kaduna State-sponsored students studying abroad, Governor Uba Sani has cleared an outstanding $247,235.84 (approximately ?407.9 million) in foreign tuition fees. The payment covers debts inherited from the previous administration (2021–2023), which had left many students, particularly in Medicine and Nursing programs, stranded and unable to continue their studies.

The cleared tuition spans a number of international institutions, including Debrecen University (UK/Hungary), University of Wollongong (Dubai), Medical University Havana (Cuba), and KIU IUIU (Uganda), according to Professor Yahya Saleh Ibrahim, Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board.

In addition to settling these arrears, the governor has also ensured payment of all foreign tuition for students sponsored from 2023 to date. He has further directed the Board to conduct a thorough assessment of all foreign universities hosting Kaduna students to identify and resolve any lingering financial issues.

Governor Sani’s intervention has been widely praised as a demonstration of his commitment to education, human capital development, and support for underprivileged students.

“This proactive step will allow our students to sleep with both eyes closed, knowing their education is secure,” one relieved parent commented.

The Kaduna State government reaffirmed its stance that investment in youth and education remains a cornerstone of its development strategy.
