Security operatives in Kano State have arrested an 18-year-old newlywed bride, Saudat Jibrin, for allegedly killing her husband, Salisu Idris, just nine days after their wedding in the Farawa community.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Monday night, May 5, 2025, following a heated altercation between the couple. Their wedding was held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, and was reportedly arranged by family members without mutual affection between the couple.

Local reports suggest that Salisu Idris, 30, had initially expressed concerns about the marriage but was pressured by relatives to proceed with the union. Although the specific circumstances leading to the fatal dispute remain unclear, community sources alleged that Saudat may have poisoned her husband before stabbing him during a confrontation.

Tensions escalated in the community as enraged youths attempted to lynch the suspect. However, security forces arrived promptly to prevent mob action and took the suspect into custody.

Confirming the arrest, the Kano State Police Command issued a statement on Monday through its spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa. The statement revealed that the suspect allegedly slit her husband’s throat with a sharp knife.

According to SP Kiyawa, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori immediately deployed a team of detectives to the crime scene after receiving the report. The victim was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The suspect is currently being held at the command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Homicide Section, and will face charges of culpable homicide.

SP Kiyawa reiterated the command’s commitment to a thorough investigation and warned that the police would not tolerate any form of violence or criminal activity in the state.

He assured the public that justice would be served in accordance with the law.
