President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to veteran journalist and media icon, Dare Babarinsa, on the occasion of his 70th birthday, describing him as a national asset whose decades-long dedication to journalism and nation-building continue to inspire generations.

In a statement released on Tuesday, President Tinubu hailed Babarinsa, Chairman and Managing Director of Gaskiya Media, for his unwavering commitment to truth, professional excellence, and democratic ideals throughout his illustrious career.

The President recalled Babarinsa’s journey in journalism, which began at the Daily Times as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in 1981, and progressed through impactful stints at Concord Newspapers, Newswatch, and a 15-year tenure as Executive Director of Tell Magazine. He lauded Babarinsa’s evolution from a reporter to an advocate for press freedom and good governance, particularly during the military era.

President Tinubu also praised Babarinsa’s role in promoting the political and economic integration of the Yoruba people and his rich historical insight into Nigeria’s development. He noted Babarinsa’s fearlessness and integrity, which positioned him as one of the leading voices for democracy during some of the country’s most challenging times.

Highlighting Babarinsa’s efforts to uphold the values of truth, accuracy, and fairness through his involvement with the Nigeria Guild of Editors, the President commended his mentorship of young media professionals and his enduring contributions to national discourse.

As the celebrated journalist joins the ranks of septuagenarians, President Tinubu offered prayers for Babarinsa’s continued good health, strength, and more years of impactful service to the nation.
