In a major move to expand Nigeria’s global aviation reach, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has arrived in Brazil with a focused mission  to kickstart direct flights between Nigeria and South America—and strengthen partnerships that will fuel the future of Nigerian aviation.

The visit, backed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, brings together top Nigerian aviation officials, including NCAA Director General Capt. Chris Najomo and executives from local airline operators. Their first stop? São José dos Campos, home to Embraer—one of the world’s top aircraft manufacture

According to Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, At Embraer’s headquarters, the delegation held high-level talks aimed at unlocking new aircraft leasing options, securing financing partnerships, and exploring ways to make Nigeria’s airlines more competitive and connected.

“We had extensive discussions with Embraer on how they can support our aviation sector with their vast network of lessors and financial institutions,” said Minister Keyamo. “Our goal is to equip Nigerian operators with what they need to grow and thrive.”

Moshood disclosed that the visit isn’t just about airplanes but about access. Today, the Minister continues the working tour in Brasília to meet with Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Sílvio Costa Filho. The goal is to revise the current Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between both countries and pave the runway for direct air routes from Nigeria to Brazil and beyond.

This initiative is seen as more than a diplomatic handshake but a historic leap toward tighter trade links, cultural exchange, and regional integration between Africa and South America. It’s also a potential game-changer for Nigerian travelers, businesses, and airlines.
