The Oyo State Police Command has successfully dismantled a human trafficking syndicate operating in Ibadan, rescuing 84 individuals, including a child, from a residential building in the Orogun area of the city.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the victims, believed to be nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo, were lured to Nigeria under false pretenses of employment opportunities. Once in the country, they were allegedly held against their will and their families extorted for large sums of money in U.S. dollars.

The rescued individuals are currently being cared for at the Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, while investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the operation and ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.

The police operation, executed with precision, underscores the Oyo State Police Command’s commitment to fighting human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, renewing calls for stronger measures to combat human trafficking.

Authorities are working  to reunite the victims with their families and provide necessary support. The command also urges the public to report any suspicious activities, emphasizing the crucial role community vigilance plays in preventing such crimes.
