Atiku’s Proposed Coalition Has Crumbled, His Political Future Looks Bleak— Onanuga

Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, believes that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s political future “looks bleak.”
Onanuga stated that the coalition Abubakar and his allies are forming to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 has “disintegrated.”
On Wednesday, Delta’s Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and other key political figures in the state left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the APC.
Ifeanyi Okowa, former Delta governor and PDP vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, is also expected to switch to the ruling party.
Abubakar had chosen Okowa as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.
The PDP is currently facing numerous high-profile defections, with speculation that more party leaders may join the APC soon.
In response to an X post by Tunde Rahman, Onanuga said that Okowa’s defection and the position of some former Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) members have caused problems for the proposed coalition.
Onanuga said, “Atiku’s political future looks bleak. The coalition that he, El Rufai, Babachir, and new member Baba-Ahmed are cobbling together has disintegrated.”
He added, “Potential allies, including former running mate Ifeanyi Okowa and defunct CPC members, are giving his leprous group a wide berth. Atiku is a loser again.”
Abubakar has repeatedly expressed his desire to create a coalition of opposition political parties to take power from the APC in the 2027 election.
Amid discussions about the coalition, PDP governors have ruled out the possibility of a merger or coalition with any other political party.
