Tinubu Orders Overhaul of Security Strategy, Declares “Enough is Enough”

President Bola Tinubu has issued a stern directive to Nigeria’s security chiefs, calling for an immediate overhaul of national security strategies in response to rising violence in parts of the country. During a high-level meeting at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, the President condemned the continued loss of lives in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states, declaring emphatically: “Enough is enough.”

The closed-door session, which lasted over two hours, brought together top military, police, and intelligence officials, as well as the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu. Following the meeting, Ribadu briefed journalists, revealing that President Tinubu was deeply concerned about the deteriorating security situation and had demanded swift and decisive action.

“We gave him an update on what has been going on, including the attacks, casualties, and property destruction,” Ribadu stated. “Even while on his recent trip to Paris and London, the President was fully engaged, issuing instructions and closely monitoring developments.”

According to Ribadu, the President has mandated security agencies to intensify collaboration with local councils and state governments to tackle the root causes of violence at the grassroots level. “The President directed that we work more closely with governors, local governments, and community leaders,” he said.

The NSA confirmed that operatives had already been deployed to flashpoint areas following earlier directives, particularly in Borno, Benue, and Plateau States. These regions have recently witnessed a spike in deadly attacks, with many civilians reportedly falling victim to improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and armed raids in ungoverned spaces.

Ribadu emphasized the importance of community engagement and intelligence gathering to counter the threats effectively. “Security challenges are not just national; they start from the communities. We need local collaboration to overcome them,” he added.

President Tinubu’s renewed push for a security reset comes amid growing public outcry over persistent violence and insecurity across parts of Nigeria. The administration has pledged to pursue a more aggressive and coordinated response moving forward.
