Chidinma Ojukwu, the prime suspect in the murder of Super TV CEO, Michael Usifo Ataga, on Thursday narrated before a Lagos High Court how she discovered his dead body inside a short-let apartment in Lekki on June 15, 2021.

Testifying before Justice Yetunde Adesanya at the Tafawa Balewa Square courtroom, the former 300-level Mass Communication student of the University of Lagos opened her defence with a chilling account of the moment she allegedly found Ataga lifeless.

According to Chidinma, she had stepped out to buy food and drinks. Upon returning to the apartment, she knocked but received no response. “I pushed the door open and saw blood on the floor. I dropped everything I was holding and rushed to him,” she told the court, adding that Ataga’s eyes were half-open and he had no pulse.

Led in evidence by her lawyer, Mr. Onwuka Egwu, Chidinma also gave insight into her relationship with the late tech executive. She revealed they met in November 2020 through a mutual friend, Fiyin, who was in a relationship with Ataga’s friend, James.

Describing Ataga as kind and supportive, she told the court he had paid her tuition and also supported her cosmetics business. She further claimed Ataga confided in her that he was from Edo State, lived in Victoria Garden City (VGC), and had three children with his estranged wife who lived in Abuja.

The trial continues.
