The Rivers State Government has issued a strong warning to members of the public regarding fake announcements being circulated on social media, particularly those falsely attributed to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

In a press release signed by Sir Dede Sampson Friday, Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau in the SSG’s office, the government described the false announcements as “malicious fabrications” aimed at misleading citizens and destabilizing the peace in the state.

One such announcement, now widely shared online, falsely claims that the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, and the Deputy Governor, Prof. Mrs. Ngozi Nma Odu, were summoned to a meeting scheduled for Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Government House. The government categorically stated that this claim is entirely fake and did not originate from any official channel.

“These announcements are the handiwork of troublemakers seeking to create panic and confusion among the people of Rivers State,” the statement read. “The public is strongly advised to disregard such misinformation.”

To combat the spread of false information, the government reiterated that all official communications are disseminated solely through verified platforms, including:

  • The official Rivers State Government website: www.riversstate.gov.ng
  • Government-verified social media handles, such as the official Rivers State Government Facebook page
  • Press releases from the Office of the Governor and the Secretary to the State Government
  • Recognized and approved traditional media outlets

Citizens seeking clarification are encouraged to contact the SSG’s office directly via the official phone line: +234 913 574 8442.

The government also urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid sharing unverified information, emphasizing the importance of verifying sources before disseminating content online.

This clarification comes amid heightened political tensions and increased scrutiny of governance in Rivers State following recent administrative shake-ups and the temporary suspension of Governor Fubara.

Authorities are expected to intensify efforts in tracking the origin of the fake announcements and ensuring accountability for attempts to undermine public trust and stability.
