The Nigeria Police Force has formally invited the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to an investigative meeting in connection with an incident that occurred during the recent Sallah celebration.
It had been reported that on Sunday, March 30, 2025, Kano State Police Command arrested one Usman Sagiru, 20, of Sharifai Quarters, in connection with the alleged killing and attack on vigilante members that occurred in the entourage of Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II after Eid prayers.
Similarly, the command commenced an investigation into the incident and extended an invitation to Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku for interrogation.
According to an official letter dated April 4, 2025, and signed by CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, Commissioner of Police (Operations), the invitation was made under the directive of the Inspector General of Police.
The letter requests the Emir to report to the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, by 10:00 a.m.
The security agencies had placed a restriction on durbar activities displays during the Sallah period, citing concerns over safety and possible unrest.
Despite this, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi allegedly went ahead with the traditional Durbar processions, drawing large crowds and significant media attention on Sallah day and the Hawah Nasarawa with a visit to the government house.
